  • Speed Restrictor Ramps

    Speed restrictor ramps are traffic calming devices that use vertical deflection to slow motor-vehicle traffic in order to improve safety conditions. The aim of reducing vehicle speed is to improve public safety and reduce the number of pedestrian and vehicle accidents. Speeds ramps have become a common and highly visible feature in car parks and roads because they encourage traffic to move slowly and safely.

    These modular units can be arranged and installed to effect and reduce the speed of on-coming traffic on most sites or locations. Manufactured in the UK from 100 % recycled heavy duty PVC in either 30, 50 mm or 75 mm heights they are coloured in either high visibility yellow or black, which simply slot together on site. Typically alternate colours are laid to aid visibility. Units can be fixed in the ‘short term’ by use of an adhesive and later relocated and bolted down for permanent fixing. It is recommended that ‘speed warning signs’ are also used in conjunction with any speed ramp installation to warn approaching traffic of their presence.

    Fixing

    • It is recommended that sections are fixed using anchor bolts to a suitable level concrete surface.
    • Each 500 mm long central segment requires 4 anchor bolts.
    • Each individual end cap requires 2 anchor bolts.
    • Specialist anchor bolts are available for tarmac and asphalt surfaces.

    Current UK legislation requires any person or company offering car park facilities to conduct a safety audit, and where vehicle speed in any area shared with pedestrians is a manageable risk, speed bumps are acknowledged to be the most effective speed risk management tool. The Health & Safety Executive have also stated that where no pavement exists, speed bumps are the ideal way to zone pedestrian walkways in areas shared with vehicles i.e. car parks, drives and access roads width of 500mm

    Installation

    Typical installation of flow plates to 3 metre wide road:-

    1. Cut trench across road 900mm wide x 325mm deep.
    2. Lay concrete base 75mm thick.
    3. Set plates as shown and connect drainage ducting to each plate and main drain.
    4. Pour concrete and finish level with road surface.
